FAQs

Where did you learn to paint?

I have always been in a creative field. I started working in Graphic Design; I headed a department teaching high school Design and Technology for several years, and I had a ceramics business for a while. Drawing has always been the basis everything I do. I started painting in oils about 10 years ago after taking workshops at the Art Students League of New York and have painted in oils since then. I am fortunate to be part of a wide ranging network of working artists.

A slightly more in-depth bio can be found here.

How long does an artwork take to create?

It’s very variable depending on the size, materials and subject matter.

The actual painting itself can take anything from a day (for a small piece), to a couple of days, to many weeks. Also involved is the preparation and finish of the substrate before painting, and also the finish - that can involve: oiling out, varnishing or waxing and framing and wiring. Read more about my process here.

Do you take commissions?

Not currently, sorry.

I paint in series and I paint what excites me, inspires me and comes from a place of joy and an appreciation of the beauty of the world. I hope this comes across in the work.  It is important to me not to interrupt that creative flow and to paint what comes from the heart. My hope is that my collectors can find something that speaks to them from pieces already created and that they can find the joy that I put into the work. I appreciate your understanding. I will let you know if anything changes.

Do you sell prints?

Not yet online. Some of my prints are sold exclusively at The Hamlet British Store in Mount Kisco.

What paints and materials do you use?

I largely use Gamblin and Winsor & Newton oils but I use wide range of brands. My basic palette is usually Cadmium Yellow Light, Permanent Rose, Ultramarine, Phthalo blue, Burnt Umber and Titanium Zinc White but I vary that and sometimes add other colors depending on what I’m painting. I use refined linseed oil as a medium and paint without solvents. I don’t use water mixable oils.

I love painting on rigid panels. Over a certain size (around 16 x 20”) I also paint on stretched linen or canvas since they are lighter weight, more convenient for shipping and do not warp. I pre-prepare my own substrates and finish with varnish. Read more here.

Can I pick up an artwork directly?

Absolutely. I prefer to exchange artworks in person. It’s much safer for the artwork that way and I can gift wrap it for you. Use ‘LOCAL’ at checkout. Email me after purchase to arrange a pick up time.
