OIL BRUSHES for Beginners Class

Good quality brushes are expensive - sorry! If you already have your good quality brushes (designed for oil or acrylics), please feel free to bring them! You will get quickly frustrated with poor quality brushes.

I strongly recommend synthetic bristle brushes with long handles (approx 10”) in mainly flats or long flats, plus one brush for drawing (we will be drawing in paint) such as a llong slim filbert or rigger brush.

If you don’t have brushes I have put together a couple of recommended starter Brush sets which I have selected for affordability without sacrificing quality - you only need to choose one of these sets. You can always add more as you go if you need to:

EITHER

Set 1:

Blick Scholastic Wonder White Flat with long handles in sizes 12, 14 and 16

Blick Scholastic Wonder Round with long handle in size 6

Blick Scholastic Wonder Filbert with long handle in size 6

Silver Brush Bristlon Stiff White Synthetic Brush - Long Filbert, Size 2 for drawing

Total approx $45 from Blick

OR

Set 2:

Trekell Opal Bristle Acrylic Paint Brush Set - Assorted Professional Paint Brushes Designed for Acrylic and Oil Paint - 10" Brush Handles, 6 Piece Set

This is a really nice quality starter set and should give you all the brushes you need for this course:

Total approx $67 from Amazon. EDIT - Sorry Amazon just the price up to $72 !

Set 2 Brush List from Amazon Click here

Contains #6 Flat, #4 Long flat, #2 Flat, #2 Filbert, #4 Round, #0 round

Note that brush sizes vary wildly between manufacturers so don’t worry that these appear to differ between sets - these will give roughly equivalent collections of brushes.

In class I will also go through some other brushes that I like and would recommend investing in.

Good quality brushes will last you a long time if you care for them well.
